Lithosphere

About project

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering organizes an exhibition entitled Lithosphere (Slovenian: Litosfera) in the premises of the University of Ljubljana. Cooperation between the Department of Geology and the Department of Textiles, Graphic Arts and Design through the exhibition brings fruitful cooperation between the two seemingly unrelated sectors, but the exhibition combines the elements necessary for the quality implementation of the project. Geologists have prepared a selection of rocks and fossils that will be displayed at the exhibition, while the graphics helped with the ideas about the overall graphic design and the exhibition layout. The opening of the exhibition will be held at the Balcony Hall of the University of Ljubljana on March 21st, 2017 at 13.30, and will be open until May 26th every working day between 4 and 7pm. You are welcome!

One of the organizers of the exhibition, Assoc. prof. dr. Marko Vrabec wrote about the exhibition: “We were invited to prepare an exhibition for the University and the public from our collections of minerals, fossils and rocks. We are looking forward to these opportunities. With the exhibition Lithosphere we wish to show you how geologists see rocks and fossils – in rocks we see the recorded history of the Earth, the processes they shape and the history of life on it. With the Lithosphere exhibition we will help you to read what is written in the rocks. This is also the main purpose of our study collections; not intended just for storing specimens or collecting attractive pieces of minerals. Collections are here to teach  new generations of experts who will be able to understand the history, as well as the future of the Earth and the man on it, from the geological record. We selected almost exclusively the specimens found in Slovenia for the exhibition, they will surprise you. Exhibition shows Slovenian granite,  dinosaurs bones, a stone containing diamonds, fossil coral, as well as geologists looking at Plečnik’s a favorite ornamental stone. We are looking forward to your visit.”
