The Department of Geotechnology, Mining and Environment (OGRO) carries out programmes that enable a lot of employment possibilities to domestic and foreign students after completed schooling.

The natural and engineering sciences belong to geotechnological disciplines that have been present at the University of Ljubljana for more than 90 years. Understanding the processes under the Earth’s surface and knowing the technologies to handle these processes may be a tempting challenge for young people wanting to work in technological spheres or daring to step into a field of work where a sense of adventure is needed.
The educational process is, due to specific requirements of the profession, usually conducted in small groups, rarely exceeding 20 students. These groups work in modern classrooms, laboratories and in the field. Students attending the university level programme can obtain the title: Dipl. Ing. (UN) of Geotechnology and Mining. Graduates that have completed a vocational matura at the middle level school and a higher professional programme can obtain the title: Dipl. Ing. (HP) of Geotechnology and Mining.

Having been awarded a diploma, the most eager students can join the master’s study of Geotechnology and obtain the title Master of Geotechnology. The study programmes of OGRO are strongly connected to the international study environment, enabling domestic students to do a part of study activities abroad and foreign students to study in Slovenia. OGRO believes that each student also needs to work in practice, so practical training is organised in some domestic and foreign companies. Contacts from practice can sometimes help students find their first employment.

In case you find the employment opportunities at home and abroad (Australia, Canada, Norway, South Africa, USA …) and the exciting nature of the profession a big enough motivation to begin your study, do not hesitate to join us soon.
