The Chair of Applied Geology is a chair at the Department of Geology at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, covering the applied courses of geology and focused on scientific and practical problem solving related to natural geological and anthropogenic events and hazards. It has been established as a response to the increasing demand for geologists with engineering, technical and practical knowledge. Apart from the classical applied research field, practical and research activities in applied geology have great potential for planning and remediation of recent and future environmental interventions. The primary research courses of the chair are hydrogeology, engineering geology, geochemistry, geophysics, GIS and karst, with broader fields of cooperation in the fields of “basic” geology, environment and other fields (more information available at the page Fields).
The chair has nine active members working on the pedagogical and research activities – two professors, one associate professor, five assistants, and one technical assistant.
