In June, the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana, signed a licensing agreement with Petroleum Experts Ltd. under which Petroleum Experts has donated 10 licenses for the Move software suite with commercial value of 1.5 million Euros.
The Move software suite (www.mve.com/software) is used for geological structural analysis and includes various tools for digital geological mapping, construction of cross-sections and 3D models, and for structural validation using kinematic reconstructions of tectonic structures in 2D and 3D. Additionally, it contains several add-on modules for advanced functionalities such as geomechanical modeling, fracture analysis and modeling, stress analysis, and modeling of fault behaviour. Licenses are installed on a network license server, which provides access to Move software to students in the student computer lab, to researchers and grad students on the workstations in the research computer lab, as well as to individual faculty on their personal computers.
“Petroleum Experts’ donation will enable us to stay in touch with state-of-the-art software technology for geological structural analysis, in which the Move suite is a de facto standard worldwide. In the future, we will integrate teaching of selected Move functionalities in the curricula in undergraduate and master studies of Geology, as we are confident that the knowledge of new digital approaches will help students in their study and research, and is expected to improve their employment opportunities,” said Assoc. Prof. Marko Vrabec, who coordinated the acquisition of Move licenses for the Department of Geology.
