As part of a hand embroidery course, the first-year students learnt the exact process of this meditative manual work and created visual designs, which were then digitally converted into patterns for machine embroidery. They explored the theme of air and artificial intelligence and realised their ideas using neon threads to create abstract patterns on the waste material of sports kites. They explored the fact that air is filled with data, algorithms and invisible forces that shape our thoughts and reality, in addition to oxygen, and looked for parallels between humans, nature and technology. They came to the conclusion that the algorithms of artificial intelligence shape our world invisibly and constantly, just as the wind shapes kites, and questioned the safety of using new technologies, their advantages and disadvantages. The fabrics of discarded kites that once defied the force of the wind are reborn in a textile installation with bright colours, eclectically combining the tactile with the ethereal, often invisible influence of artificial intelligence and air.
