Project KNITT-SHIRT is a collection of knitted t-shirts, (as universal clothing pieces) with the creation of which the 1st year students of the Department of Textile and Fashion Design have shown the coexistence of traditional and classical techniques of handwork with contemporary design and artistic approach.
In the very process of work the students have been studying handwork such as classical knitting, crocheting, knotting, wrapping, interlacing and new techniques, such as hand-knitting and finger-knitting. They have also learned their own ways of interlacing threads.
The revival of traditional handicrafts is expressed through visual, social, ethnological, biological and ideological themes, through “Yarn-bombing”, urbanism, futurism and social activism. The students have also learned about the magic of transmitting knowledge of handiwork from their grandmothers and mothers. By socializing with older generations the students acquired a different perspective and understanding of the value of handwork, of the past and of today.
Exhibition is located in gallery UAUU (Univerzalni Atelje Uličnih Umetnosti) from 30th May till 2nd June 2016.
