Manufacturing technologies: Forming

Goals: The student gets insight into numerous procedures of plastic forming and can evaluate them in terms of technological, economic and environmental factors. Students acquire basic knowledge about forming machines and tools. Using integral calculus, the student can define the loads acting on forming machines and tools for bulk and sheet forming. The topics of the course cover: understanding the interdependence between the machine/tool/ work-piece and the properties of the product; observation skills for the basic technological parameters such as: loads acting on the machine and tool, kinetics of the process and condition of the material, methods of quantitative determination and assessment of the influence of parameters on repeatability of the process, presses, forging machines, rolling stands, forming tools and technology of bulk forming, such as forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing and technology of sheet forming by bending, deep drawing and cutting.
