Enrolment requirements and selection criteria
Candidates for the master’s programme in Materials and Metallurgy have to meet the following criteria according to Art. 38a, 38b and 41 of the Slovenian Law on Higher Education and Art. 115 of the Statute of the University of Ljubljana:
a) completed first cycle university study programme in Materials Engineering.
b) Bachelor’s university programme from other science and technical areas of expertise (mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, etc.), if the candidate prior to enrolment fulfils the obligations that are essential for further studies in the range of 20-60 ECTS. Obligations can be performed while studying at Level 1 or by taking examinations prior to enrolment in the master’s study programme. For candidates with other technical areas of expertise, the FNSE Study Commission will determine the number of differential exams on the basis of passed examinations during the first cycle undergraduate study programme.
c) Higher professional Bologna programme in Metallurgical Technology, if the candidate prior to enrolment fulfils the obligations that are essential for further studies in the range of 20-60 ECTS. Obligations can be performed while studying at Level 1 or by taking examinations prior to enrolment in the master’s study programme.
d) Higher professional non-Bologna programme in Metallurgical Technology, if the candidate prior to enrolment fulfils the obligations that are essential for further studies in the range of 20 ECTS.
e) Older university non-Bologna programmes from other science and technical areas of expertise (mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, etc.), if the candidate prior to enrolment fulfils the obligations that are essential for further studies in the range of 20-60 ECTS. Obligations can be performed while studying at Level 1 or by taking examinations prior to enrolment in the master’s study programme. For candidates from other technical areas of expertise, the FNSE Study Commission will determine the number of differential exams on the basis of passed examinations during the first cycle undergraduate study programme.
Enrolment is limited to 50 students. Should there be more than 50 candidates, candidates will be selected by the following methodology:
- average grade of exams during undergraduate study (70%)
- grade of the diploma work during undergraduate study (30%)
Candidates with the highest number of points will be enrolled. Minimum number of students enrolled in the year to implement the study is 10.
Criteria for recognition of knowledge and skills acquired before enrolment to the programme
Prior learning will be recognised if the knowledge the candidate has previously acquired is compatible with the teaching contents of the Materials and Metallurgy programme. Prior knowledge may be acquired through various forms of education, however the recognition of knowledge and skills will depend on the decision of the Study Commission of the Department of Materials and Metallurgy or the body appointed by the Senate of NTF. Candidates must submit a written application and provide certificates and other evidence of the knowledge and skills acquired previously. For recognition of the knowledge acquired before enrolment to the study, the body appointed by the Study Commission (or the corresponding body) will validate previous knowledge according to the following criteria:
- adequacy of enrolment conditions (required education necessary for enrolment to the programme),
- comparability of the scope of previous education (number of hours per course, content coverage),
- suitability of previous education related to the contents of the course to be recognised.
Previously acquired education will be recognised if the conditions for enrolment in the previous programme were similar to the conditions for enrolment to the Materials and Metallurgy programme, if at least 75% of the scope of courses in the previous education are identical to the Materials Engineering programme and if at least 75% of the teaching contents correspond with the course to be recognised. If previously acquired education is approved and recognised by the Study Commission, the courses are allocated the same number of ECTS as the courses in the Materials and Metallurgy programme.
