The course introduces students to the area of inorganic non-metal materials. Topics include: composition, structure and properties of ceramic materials and their applications in natural sciences, technology and medicine, using the tools for designing the micro structure and properties of materials; understanding the mechanisms in materials at the micro level that influence the performance of material and the phenomena occurring between the material and environment during its use. The course demonstrates traditional and modern procedures for making ceramic materials and products with basic testing methods and characterisation of raw materials, materials and products.
