Foundations of mechanics

Goals: acquisition of basic knowledge for static analysis of simple frame structures (beams, trusses, ropes). Topics of the course: Setting up a mechanical model for known technical solutions in structures (supports, connections, loads), setting up and solving corresponding equilibrium equations, interpretation of results, acquisition of knowledge for the analysis of simple stress-strain states in the continuum, capability of performing strength analysis and dimensioning frame structures, knowledge about dimensioning principles that have to be considered in designing structures, knowledge of the basic rheological properties.
