Goals: Students acquire fundamental knowledge necessary for communication with other engineering professions. The course provides basic knowledge about technical documentation, graphic presentation of engineering concepts and objects, basic machine elements, assemblies and machines that are commonly applied in the field of materials technology. Topics of the course cover: methods of dimensioning basic machine elements with emphasis on the elements ensuring quality and reliability in producing materials and semi-manufactured products, fundamental knowledge about possible loads acting on driving elements and other parts of machines, basic characteristics and allowable loads of driving machines, skills for determining critical places for occurrence of damage and failure of driving elements and awareness about their reasons. Students acquire basic knowledge in machine maintenance and the impact of machines and devices on people and the environment as well as measures taken to reduce unwanted effects.
