Metallurgical furnaces

The course focuses on the importance of furnaces for particular technological procedures in manufacturing, metal processing and heat treatment. The student studies elements of the furnace, fundamentals of dimensioning and selection of the furnace, their structure, accessories and equipment for optimal management of the technological procedure, develops the skills necessary for individual, team and project work, use of professional literature and modern sources of information. The topics of the course: classification of furnaces, basic work processes in furnaces, heat transfer mechanisms in furnaces, operating temperatures of furnaces, pipelines, combustion and atmosphere in the furnace, burners, protecting atmosphere, chimneys, electrical resistance heating, inductive heating, fire-resistant materials and lining of the furnace, fundamentals of dimensioning, planning and construction of furnaces, management and supervision of processes in furnaces, heat and mass balance of the furnace, possibilities of heat recovery, energy consumption and heat losses in different types of furnaces and heating costs.
