Solidification of metallic melts

Goals: acquiring theoretical principles of solidification of metals and alloys with emphasis on solidification parameters and morphology that influence the formation of micro- and macrostructures of cast materials. Additional stress will be given to solidification sequence and transformations in solid state that run in correlation with the ways of solidification and boundary conditions. By using in situ methods, students will learn how to follow single sequences of solidification and solid-state transformations and to relate them quantitatively with the resulting microstructure. The morphology of solidification will be determined also by modelling.
