Diploma thesis 2014/2015

Upper Carniola regin costumes in haute couture

This final thesis is a result of endless enthusiasm for female fashion. To be more precise, of the wish to explore the secret details and making of certain pieces of female clothing, in this case parts of the folk costume of the Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) region. Although I do not come from the abovementioned region of Slovenia, the folk costume has always been present in my life, since it was being made in our home tailoring. The result of all this experience is a collection of female clothes inspired by the folk costume of Gorenjska. The theoretical part includes research about the history of the folk costume of Gorenjska along with detailed descriptions of its parts (from the cover to shoes). A special section is dedicated to the meaning and origin of floral patterns and ethnic elements in contemporary fashion. The practical part starts with the objectives of the final thesis, the description of the target group, inspiration, colours and materials used. Each presented silhouette tells its own story, however, the pieces are connected with one another and form a collection. The goal of the final thesis was to design a high fashion collection with its origin in the folk costume of Gorenjska. The collection was designed in a contemporary way with the use of various techniques. Each piece is a unique specimen, mostly handmade, as the whole collection is part of haute couture.
