Workshop moments “DYEING COTTON WITH NATURAL DYES OBTAINED FROM INVASIVE PLANTS”

The workshop on dyeing with invasive plants was performed on 13th June 2019 at Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering (as the part of APPLAUSE project). Sixteen people attended the workshop, where they learned to extract dye from plants (Japanese knotweed, Staghorn Sumac, Goldenrod) in aqueous medium and to dye cotton fabric in Japanese dyeing technique Shibori. The participants also became acquainted with the mordanting of textiles and the effect of mordanting on hue of dyed fabric. The workshop atmosphere was relaxed and fun, and the participants created beautiful patterns on their dyed fabrics.
