GENERAL INFORMATION+

Creative Typography (CT), optional course

Summary of the subject contents: Individual work on a real assignment. Analysing typographic use. Case studies. Discussions. Synthesis. Innovative and experimental use of typefaces. Concept and design of typefaces for different media: web, print, letterpress. Cultural, social and economic aspects of creative typographic activities.

Course Obligations+
  • Subject should be attended on time.
  • Products must be delivered to agreed deadlines.
  • The subject requires the presence of 80%.
  • In case of insufficient attendance, the course cannot be completed in the academic year 2023/2024.
  • The final grade of the subject (100%) is composed as follows:
    presence 20%, exam questions 10%, products 50%, presentation 20%.

Semester assignment+

As part of the semester assignment, plan and design letters needed to print the selected province/territory, country in English. Letters should lean towards accidental/decorative/address letters (letters of special shapes, e.g. hollow, dashed, decorated, shaded, duplicated or multiplied strokes, stencilled…). Research the characteristics that are typical for selected province/territory, country (cultural, industrial, historical, artistic…) and include them in the produced letters. You will use the letters to write the province/territory, country without the borders that define it, on the map. The submission deadline is December 22, 2023.

Final assignment+

The final assignment consists of a diary, a presentation and an oral defense.

  • The diary and the presentation should have a uniform graphic image.
  • The diary should be in the form of an e-book (pdf) and contain up to 20 pages.
  • It presents an overview of the work on the subject.
  • At your own discretion and selection, display important and interesting stages of design in the diary.
  • Give short comments next to the products.
  • The recommended journal format is A5.

The diary and presentation must be uploaded to OneDrive in pdf format by January 23, 2024 (Izpit_UT_23_24). Files uploaded to OneDrive should NOT contain printing marks (crop marks, bleed marks, registration marks, color bars, page information).
