PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

Before starting the application and writing process, please consult the following documents:

  • Tentative dates and deadlines: https://erc.europa.eu/news/calls-2023-tentative-dates
ERC Work Programme 2023 is yet to be published.
  • Information for Applicants to the Starting and Consolidator Grant Call, including the detailed panel expertise keywords (the Instructions will be updated with the publication of the call)
  • PANELS 2021 and 2022 (Also applicable for 2023): We recommend using the lists of previous panel members to understand the divergent backgrounds and perspectives from which panel members may view your proposal. The panel members are only active every second year, and you are applying to the ERC WP 2023. Therefore, you can see the panel members for your specific panel in 2019 and 2021 (can be found on the ERC homepage). Most likely more than half of the panel members in 2023 will also be active panel members for your application. 3-5 of them will be the main evaluators of your application in stage 1. You can also find a more in-depth analysis of previous panel members here (just select X ERC scheme and the specific panel you are interested in).
  • Funded projects: Use datahub to search the project of your domain.
  • Standard StG Application Form & Standard CoG Application Form: (Also applicable for 2023): (A-Form, B1 and B2 template). Please note that there is a structural change also in this call. The previous section c) resources of part B2 has been transferred to the online submission form (section 3, max 8.000 characters), but counts towards the 15 pages limit for B2 (excluding the online budget table). So do not talk about the resources in B2.

During the workshops you will also receive the following templates and guidelines:

  • The budget template for your information and internal calculations only. Please read the comments and check the standard salary costs. We advise you to use the version 2 for all researchers employed in the ERC project. Please also charge the project budget with at least 50% of admin personnel (project manager). For the official budget please use the online budget table.
  • A handbook on how to write competitive ERC Grant Proposals (same for all schemes).
  • Specific suggestions with tips and tricks for B1 and B2.
  • ERC CV, FUNDING ID and Track Record templates with tips.

Please also note that with the available financial resources from the Development Fund of the University of Ljubljana (Razvojni sklad Univerze v Ljubljani) all serious applicants have also the possibility to get the  Horizon Europe Programmes (ERC included) internal and external expert support. You can take advantage of both consultancy services if you will strictly follow the deadlines.

To receive internal expert support (internal advisor), you need to submit your project (both completed templates B1 & B2) 45 days before the official deadline to erc@uni-lj.si.

To receive the external expert support (external agency specialised in ERC support) you need to submit the request and your completed project application (both fully completed templates B1 & B2) 30 days before the official deadline to eusklad@uni-lj.si. The request will have to be approved by the president of the Development Fund considering also the availability of the budget.

If you wish to receive preliminary general review of your scientific and bibliographical excellence, please send the official ERC CV and Track Record together with the concept, idea and short summary of your proposal to erc@uni-lj.si as soon as possible.

New features in calls 2022, 2023:

Please also note that you will have to:

  • Complete online the ethical AND security issues table and upload the ethical self-assessment if any issue in the ethical issues table applies (no template). Please carefully consult the website and read the general guidelines (Also applicable for 2023). https://erc.europa.eu/sites/default/files/document/file/EthicsSelfAssessmentStepByStep.pdf
  • Document all written consent by all proposal participants/collaborators, e.g., by an email dated before the call deadline, but not submit it with the application (online form, section “Declarations”).
  • GEP – Horizon Europe Guidance on Gender Equality Plans needs to be taken into consideration when applying. Please select the option that University of Ljubljana has the GEP. Legal entities concerned by this eligibility criterion will have to confirm until Grant Agreement signature that they have a GEP in place.

Consider:

  • Track Record: preprints may be included, if freely available from a preprint server.
  • Mandatory Funding ID annex to indicate ongoing, submitted and previous grants.
  • Open Access is mandatory, related costs can be charged to the project.
  • Security Issue Table is mandatory.
  • Data Management Plan is mandatory in the first 6m of the project.
  • ERC beneficiaries will automatically be covered by the HORIZON EUROPE provisions on research data sharing unless they specifically decide to opt-out; related costs can be charged to the project.

For the submission you need to register via the F&T Portal.

If you wish to join Informative day: ERC Applications 2023 do not forget to register before 11. 4. 2022.  You can access the registration form here.
